Children’s Programs

Babytime is perfect activity for little ones aged 0-12 months and a caregiver or parent. Our current Babytime session begins November 4 and runs through December 17 on Tuesdays at 1:30pm.

If you haven’t been to Toddler Time, then you’re in for some fun! Join us for a morning session open to children aged 1-3. No registration is required for this fun program of activities, songs, books and much more to keep your toddler moving and learning. We are running one last 6-week session for 2025, then taking a quick break over the holidays and we’ll start again in early 2026. Join us on on tuesdays from Nov 4th – Dec 17th at 10:30am!

Join us for Storytime on Wesnesdays! We sing songs, read great books and practice lots of early literacy skills in a fun manner. Our current Storytime session is running from September 10th – December 17th!We are also running several special storytimes including: October 29 (Dress in a Halloween costume!), November 26 (“Movember” – Wear your silliest moustache),December 17 (It’s a PJ Party! Wear your coziest jammies or cozy sweater). No registration is required for this fun program.

Intergenerational Storytime will continue in 2025 at Waterside (105 McNeely Avenue). Join us for a smaller version of storytime in a quiet environment that really makes a difference in the lives of the residents. No registration required–just arrive a few minutes early and be prepared to have fun. Upcoming Date: November 27th!

The Carleton Place Public Library is proud to partner with Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est to offer a monthly French language storytime program! No registration is required–just come to the library on one of the Saturday mornings listed in our calendar and enjoy a fun hour of stories and songs in French. French Language Storytime returns on Saturday, November 15th at 10:30am & Saturday, December 6th at 10:30am!

We are so excited to invite you to join us to our monthly Cookbook Book Club! This isn’t your typical book club. Each month, we pick a theme, try out recipes, and bring our delicious creations to share at our meeting. See the button below for our monthly themes! New members are always welcome, so come hungry and ready to cook up something amazing!

Join us on the fourth Tuesday of each month for Silent Art Night! Come with your art supplies or use our provided basic drawing materials to create something creative. You can always keep the artwork you create, and we will be making several donations to local organizations with any art that members donate to to share with the community. No registration required – newcomers are always welcome! If you have any questions, please contact Julia at jhawkins@carletonplace.ca

These bi-weekly meetings for caregivers are offered to any person caring for a loved one living with dementia. Join a representative from the Alzheimer’s Society of Lanark Leeds and Grenville in the library’s Barbara Walsh Room to learn about coping strategies and to meet others in similar situations. Drop-ins are welcome, but connecting with the Alzheimer’s Society beforehand is appreciated. We’re so pleased to partner with Lanark and Renfrew Immigrant Settlement Services to offer Free English as a Second Language sessions every Friday morning at the library at 10:30am. No registration needed, just drop in for a very relaxed and welcoming group. Click the button below for more info!

Parrot Partners Community Presentation

Join us on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025 from 2-3 PM for a presentation from the local charity Parrot Partners!

Parrot Partners is a fantastic non-profit organization started by Judy Tennant. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for parrots in the wild and in our homes through mundane and professional rehabilitation, training, and through educating the next generation of owners and social influencers.

We will be learning about Parrot Partners, and the creatures it is dedicated to helping, in an informatice presentation at the library.

Halifax Explosion Author Visit with Michael Dupuis

Halifax Explosion author talk poster

Join us on the anniversary of the Halifax Explosion–Saturday, December 6th at 1pm at the Carleton Place Public Library, for a talk about the historical event by local author Michael Dupuis.
Dupuis joined us earlier this year for a fascinating discussion about the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919 and promises to regale us with lots of interesting information and history about the Halifax Explosion that took place in 1917. Dupuis’ book THE WOMAN REPORTER AND THE HALIFAX EXPLOSION will be available for purchase after the event for $20 cash.

    Volunteer Income Tax specialists with help those with modest income, students, seniors or simple taxes to file their 2025 taxes on site for FREE.     The Carleton Place Public Library is proud to partner with the Alzheimer's Society of Lanark, Leeds and Grenville to offer a Caregiver Support group.  These monthly meetings for caregivers are offered to any person caring for a loved one living with dementia.  Join a representative from the Alzheimer's Society of Lanark Leeds and Grenville for opportunities to develop a social network, coping strategies and to meet others in similar situations.
